Dodgeball Canada Nationals Announcement

Updated: Jun 21, 2021

Edmonton, AB – Dodgeball Canada (DC)

Dodgeball Canada has made the difficult decision to cancel the National Championships for 2021. We were very hopeful that conditions around the pandemic would have allowed for us to be back on the courts. Unfortunately, this has not been the case for most provinces. Dodgeball Canada consulted with the PSOs and the City of Edmonton, and we were unsuccessful at devising a logistical plan that abided by government regulations and ensured the safety of our athletes. All parties agreed that while a return to competitive play at the highest level is the goal, we cannot do so at the expense of athlete safety and the long-term well-being of the sport.

Leagues may continue to explore options for competitions that can occur within local guidelines and planning for Nationals in 2022 will begin immediately with more information to be shared in the coming weeks. The postponement of the WDBF World Championships to 2022, as well, means that the National Teams program will be on hold this season and will undergo substantial changes with respect to compositions, selections, and operations.

We would like to thank Dodgeball Edmonton and the City of Edmonton for their patience, tireless efforts, and ongoing commitment to hosting the 2020 and 2021 Nationals. We truly wish we were all planning a much-needed comeback to our beloved sport. We will use this opportunity to continue working behind the scenes to plan for great new things for Nationals in 2022.
