Canadian National Dodgeball Championships

The Canadian National Dodgeball Championship tournament was first run by Dodgeball Canada in 2016 in Toronto. The event was the first of its kind in Canada, where representative dodgeball teams from many provinces were selected to compete on a grand stage. It was designed with 2 goals in mind – First, to provide a venue for the best teams from around the country to come together to compete. Second, to serve as a scouting platform for the year’s selection of Team Canada for the WDBF World Championships. Previously, Team Canada’s players were selected using video footage and local tryouts, where players may never have met the people they were competing with for spots.

Without a doubt the dodgeball world has become much more cohesive since the foundation of this event. Players look forward to seeing friends they have made in previous tournaments every time Canada comes together to compete. Our big country feels closer and closer every year.

In the time that this tournament has existed, the scope has grown with each year. After being unable to hold the event in 2020 and 2021 due to covid-19, 2022 will be the largest National Championship to date, with 44 total teams competing. The production of the event also gets more sophisticated each year, with games from multiple courts being live-streamed for spectators around the world.

About Dodgeball Edmonton

Dodgeball Edmonton is a not-for-profit dodgeball league primarily geared towards adults looking to play at the highest levels. The league was founded in 2015 by Chris Berry and Paul Laking, both avid competitive players, who sought to branch out from the local scene and explore a bigger world of dodgeball.

The mission of Dodgeball Edmonton is to provide the premier dodgeball experience in Edmonton, introducing the sport to new people and adding to the credibility of the sport on a local, national and international level. Our hope is to see dodgeball recognized as a legitimate sport from the recreational to  professional level.

Dodgeball Edmonton has a player pool of over 1000 members and runs leagues on weeknights, September thru June while offering a variety of dodgeball variations (Rubber, No-sting, Foam, Men’s, Women’s, Co-ed, Draft). They also host several tournaments each year.

Hosting the 2022 Canadian National Dodgeball Championships is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the sport. Everyone involved is excited to see the mission brought to life at this exciting event!
